5 Dramatic Play Projects by Amber MacMurtry

Hello Rosies, Amber here taking over the blog today!
Its been a blustery, cold few winter days here in Vermont, so its a perfect time to sit down and color! Since I'm a card maker and sending snail mail is kind-of my jam, I've been wanting to create some fun Dramatic Play props for the Post Office play area in my son, David's, Pre-K classroom.

I decided to make a trio of fun postcards that the kids could pretend to send to each other, as well as a couple of traditional folded cards in heavy weight cardstock envelopes, for my White Rose Crafts design team project this week. I also put together some DIY art projects for the class to do, too, that I'll share at the end of the post.

I started with 5 panels of 110# white cardstock and a selection of stamp sets from White Rose Crafts.

I picked Hot Cocoa Hugs from Your Next Stamp for the first of the folded cards, and did some simple Copic coloring. I don't know about you, but I often forget that my coloring doesn't have to be super intricate or take a long time to be beautiful. This time, I decided to just do simple shading on the hot cocoa itself, leaving the mice more simple. I drew a gingham table cloth beneath the image and added the "Hot cocoa hugs" sentiment with Nocturne ink by Versafine Clair. I grabbed a scrap of patterned cardstock from my scraps box and trimmed it to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 inches, before adhering it to the center of a top folding, landscape, A2 white card base. I cut my colored panel down to 3 3/4 x 5 inches and popped it up on Woodware 1mm foam mounting tape, for a touch of dimension.

For the second folded card, I wanted some mail related imagery, so I knew I had to include Bella With Flowers From Wild Rose Studio. I again went with some simple Copic coloring, concentrating the shading on Bella herself and her oversized letter. Since this was a single stamp that doesn't come with a sentiment, I decided to mix and match a bit, grabbing this big, bold script sentiment by Dovecraft, called If Friends Were Flowers and stamped it first with Versafine Clair Charming Pink ink, then offset the stamp a bit before stamping again in Nocturne. I love that this technique gives the sentiment a pretty, colored shadow.

For my first postcard, I chose all of the ice skating images from Good Glidings, Fleece Navidad, & Holiday Mice, from Your Next Stamp and stamped them on the lower third of one of my white panels using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I used a black pen to draw a basic pond shape and snowy hill in the back ground & stamped that cute, stacked "Warm Winter Wishes" sentiment from Fleece Navidad, using Versafine Clair Paradise ink. Since I wanted this to be a postcard, I knew I didn't want the color to bleed through to the back, so I decided to pull out my Prismacolor pencils (not sold at WRC) for this scene, as well as the other two Postcards.

Next, I pulled out one of my new favorite stamp sets, Piles of Smiles by Little Acres Creations (a product line exclusive to White Rose Crafts), because its images of woodland critters working together to mail a letter are too perfect not to use for this set of projects! I really didn't want to do any difficult masking today, so I stamped the images far enough apart that I only needed to mask the letter itself. That was easy peasy because its just a rounded rectangle. I used my T square ruler to draw a horizon line. I performed some simple stamp surgery so I could stack "Sending you piles of smiles" and stamped that sentiment, as well as "Great friends lift you up" in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink before, again, coloring my scene with Prismacolor pencils.

For the final postcard, I used an older Stampendous set called Snowman Flurry, which is now sold out, but you can get a similar look by using Winter Penguins, also colored with Prismacolor pencils. The cute and punny, 2 part sentiment is stamped in Distress Oxide Salty Ocean.

I used an old, retired My Creative Time stamp set from my stash to build the back of all three of my postcards, adding that adorable little Mama Elephant Snowman Agenda image (not sold at WRC) as the postage stamp. I wrote a cute message on each one and addressed them to David's class, before putting them through my Xyron Laminator to protect them from little hands.

As a bonus, I also decided to pull out the Heffy Doodle Warm Hugs stamp set and stamp enough blank post cards for David's classmates to color, take home and mail out with their families, and die cut large, stitched postage stamp edged rectangles, using a die from my stash, out of the same 110# white cardstock for the kids to draw their own stamps as a classroom art project (not pictured).

Gotta get the next generation of cardmakers started early,
am I right?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you so much for visiting the blog today. I hope you found some inspiration in my projects today. I really had fun creating these. It was nice to not stress about the coloring (which I definitely do, sometimes) and just have some fun!
Come Back Soon,
Happy Crafting!
Featured Design Team Series: 14 Christmas Cards, 3 Decoupage Sheets by Amber MacMurtry
Happy Holidays Rosies, Amber here, and I'm taking over the blog today to share 14 (yes, you read that right) cards with you!
Although Christmas 2018 has officially passed, I'm still feeling in the holiday spirit--Plus, I still had 3 Holiday themed pop-out decoupage sheets by Craft Creations UK left from my last White Rose Crafts Design Team package.
I decided to get a head start on my personal challenge to create one Christmas card per week during 2019 and create as many cards as possible using them. I had intentionally selected sheets with several small images, so I could get the most bang for my buck, and let me tell you--3 hours and 14 cute cards with tons of dimension later, I couldn't be happier!
The Craft Creations decoupage sheets are literally idiot proof--everything that goes together is labeled together. Not to mention, if I'd wanted to, I could have even split up each of the elements of the doggies and kitties to create another 8 cards with less dimension, so the value of these sheets is really incredible! If you're looking to make some quick holiday cards, make sure you check out Christmas Doggie Mix, Christmas Kitty Mix, & Santa Selection!
Supplies: Craft Creations Christmas Doggie Mix decoupage sheet, Echo Park I Love Christmas & American Crafts Merry Christmas paper packs (both sold out) , White Blizzard Nuvo Glitter Drops, Red Berry Nuvo Drops, Crystal Dovecraft Glitter Glue, Woodware UK 1mm Foam Mounting Tape, & 6mm Double Sided Sticky Tape.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I hope you've found some inspiration in my projects today! I really enjoyed putting these together and LOVE that I was able to use up some of my Christmas Paper stash (to make room for some new selections, of course!) All 14 of these cards took about 3 hours to put together, assembly line style, and that was with a 3.5 year old buzzing around trying to get attention and my special needs 4 year old still getting over a cold--so probably less time if you could be completely focused on the task! I love that I already have 14 cards ready to go for next year, and 2019 hasn't even started yet!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Have an AMAZING New Year!

Featured Design Team Series: Your Next Stamp Christmas Card Trio by Amber MacMurtry

Hello Rosies,

Amber here, taking over the blog to share a trio of fun cards I created with a bunch of Your Next Stamp products available in the White Rose Crafts store as part of Your Next Project with Your Next Stamp inspiration week!

I selected 3 great winter themed YNS stamp sets to create my cards today. I fell in love with Good Glidings, Fleece Navidad & Holiday Mice as soon as I saw them, and I also loved the cute little Skating Rink Scene die set, which was perfect to go with all the adorable ice skating critters in the stamp sets!

I started by stamping a few of the images from each stamp set onto Copic friendly cardstock, making sure I stamped all of the ice skating critters, plus a few extra that were too cute not to color, and colored them up with Copic markers, and then fussy cut them each out.

Then I grabbed three 4.25x5.5 inch white card panels, the Nordic Snowflakes stencil by Clear Scraps (now sold out), and some Aileen's Glitter Snow paste. I taped the stencil over my card panel, and spread Glitter Snow over it in a thin layer, just like embossing paste, using a palette knife. For the first two panels, I just used the white paste on the white cardstock wanting texture rather than contrast, but for the third, I decided to try something different and pulled out some Distress Oxide ink in Salty Ocean. I blended it on the top half of the remaining panel, using a heavy hand, and then splattered some water on the ink using a distress sprayer, picking up some of the color with a towel. Then I added the same snowflakes using Glitter Snow and let all three panels air dry for about 30 mins. Just to be sure, I blasted them with my heat gun for a few seconds, which caused the snow to bubble and expand a bit.

Using the tree and ice rink dies from the Skating Rink Scene die set, I cut the rink three times out of Lawn Fawn Pixie Dust Sparkle Cardstock and cut a bunch of each of the two sizes of pine trees out of Spearmint Petallics shimmer card stock, inking the edges with Bundled Sage Distress Oxide ink. I cut 2 hillside dies from my stash, 3 times each, out of white cardstock.

To assemble my card fronts, I adhered two hillsides on top of each of the snowflake panels, then an ice rink toward the bottom of each one, and a generous scattering of little pine trees using Double Sided Sticky Tape and Aileen's Quick Dry Tacky Glue from the Try Me Size Tacky Pack. Finally, I added the adorable images I had colored, and a cute sentiment to each one, stamping them either directly on the card panel or an Oxide stamped banner of cardstock that I adhered using Woodware 1mm foam mounting tape.

 I hope you've enjoyed my cards. There's still a few more hourse to save 10% on all Your Next Stamp products in stock in the store. Ends at Midnight tonight, 11/30/18!

Featured Design Team Series: Fairy Nice Tags by Kim Fuller

Good morning everyone, Kim here with my next DT project for White Rose Crafts. This time I have created some fun mixed media tags!

These tags are lots of fun to make and with all the great items from White Rose Crafts, these tags are a super quick and easy project!

I started off with the 6 x 6 Paintable paper from Prima and cut out my tag shapes.

Next, I used my Distress Oxide in Tumbled Glass and Distress Ink in a darker blue colour for contrast. I smooshed them onto my craft pad and spritzed them with water so the paintable paper would pick up on the inks and give a lovely water colour effect on the tag.

I heat set the colours and then used the Gathered Twigs Distress Ink around the edges of the tag to give them a vintage feel.

The next step was to tear up some paper, I used the Victorian Kitchen 2 paper as I loved the soft muted colours in it and decopaged the paper to the tags.  I also added some drywall tape as well, as I love it for mixed media and it adds some great texture.

Now its time to work on the ephemera. I am using some butterflies and Tim Holtz dolls from my stash and edging them in more of the gathered twigs Distress Ink.

I did some scribbles on the background for some extra fun.

I added some distressed twine around the tag for texture.

 Now its time to add my ephemera to the tag. I also used some Dovecraft glitter glue to the wings and the dolls to give them some sparkle!

I hope you like my project today and have found some inspiration here!
Thanks for stopping by.
