Happy Birthday Layout Side 2 - Graphic 45

I'm still working on my husband's birthday from 2020 with the Graphic 45 Collection Pack 12"X12" - Kaleidoscope that I got from White Rose Crafts and I got to work.

I layered stars, circles, and banners to make it all come together on top of a White Cardstock and Oxide Ink. I finished the layout with some sticker dots. It came together really quick.

Sleep to Dream Art Journal Page

Hello! Alison Heikkila here. Today I have an art journal page to share that uses 2 Gel Press prints I made during my last FB Live for White Rose Crafts, as well as a number of products that are available in the White Rose Crafts Shop. If you'd like to check out the FB Live, please click HERE.

I wanted to use a few of my Gel Press prints with the Cosmos paper pad from Stamperia. I chose two that I thought coordinated well and I tore the edges.

I painted my background with some cool colored paints from DecoArt Media and Golden. You can't see it here, but I mixed some Interference Gold with the Turquoise to make it shimmery.

Next, I applied the 2 prints with Matte Medium. The stencil used on the print on the left is AALL & Create's #85 Abundance Stencil. The one on the right uses Studio Light's Cogs & Gears.

This is the point where I start to play. I've gotten my background painted and the large, focal images down, so now it's time to choose smaller images and to add additional colors. I picked 2 tags from the Cosmos pad and I cut them out. I even used the excess paper that was around the tags and added them here and there on the spread. I added some bright colors that didn't quite work, but added a nice punch of color...so as I progressed through the process, I dulled those colors down and worked other mediums on top of them.

I decided I needed some texture, so I took out Stamperia's Pasta Scultura, mixed with Prussian Blue acrylic paint and added it to the AALL & Create Spiral Checked Stencil. I added parts of this stencil to 3 areas on this layout, and I scraped up any excess and simply added it to the edges with my palette knife.I added more paint (using assorted brushes and my fingers), plus some clear embossing powder here and there for shine. I also added the Lotza Trianglz stencil here and there.

Here is the completed left side. You can see the shine on top from the embossing powder. I love all the texture and the various colors. The gel print seems to have completely blended into the background that it doesn't even look like I added it on top of the pages.

I wasn't sure what I was going to journal on this page when I started...but towards the end of the process the song "Sleep to Dream" by Fiona Apple popped into my head and I thought it was perfect. I wrote part of the chorus on the right page.

Here is the finished spread. There's so much to look at and lots of cool layers. I may add a bit more embossing powder, but i haven't decided yet. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I hope you’ll visit White Rose Crafts because they have so many cool products that can be used on art journal pages like this. And, hang out with us in the White Rose Crafts Gallery on FB! Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

Nuvo Creative Pens

Did you catch my Facebook LIVE last night with White Rose Crafts? If you missed the hour of listening to me ramble techniques about Nuvo Creative Pens, you can catch up either on my Youtube account where the live has been loaded, or over on White Rose Crafts Facebook page.

During the live, I told everyone that I would post my sample cheat sheets today so anyone who wanted to see my notes could easily digest them. So the following four graphics are my personal cheat sheets with my collection of Nuvo markers.

The above image is all 21 of the blending groups of Nuvo markers that I own. Currently, White Rose Crafts sells 20 out of the 21. The only blending group WRC does not have is the cookies and cream trio.

This image is of my numeric cheat sheet, showing all the colors in (almost) numeric order. I like to see that the rising numbers do not necessarily mean that the color is darker. I also think of the markers by their number instead of their name.

This chart is my comparison chart with my copic markers, showing how close each of the nuvo is to the copic, and yes I do use the markers interchangeably.

Finally, here is my list of custom blends that I really like using the nuvos. These markers do not come together, but still blend beautifully away from their natural pair.

Let me know in the comments below which blending group you would want to play with most. Until then, happy crafting.

Exploring Nuvo Creative Markers

Hey everyone! I want to invite you over to White Rose Crafts Facebook page tonight, March 9th at 7pm EST. I will be going live and exploring Nuvo Creative Markers and sharing some coloring techniques with them and how they compare and contrast to copics.

One of the samples I will be coloring up is this Woodware UK's Happy Easter stamp set. I have colored both of these samples with both copics and Nuvo Creative Markers. Can you tell which is which?

This is the sample colored in Nuvo Creative Markers. I have also used LemonCraft Daydream paper pack to finish the card as well as Kaisercraft Sympathy Words. (The copic card also used LemonCraft Daydream paper pack, but it uses Technique Tuesday's You Did It stamp set.)

Copics are on the right, Nuvo on the Left.

You have to let me know which of the two is your favorite in the comments below.

Another one of the sample I will be coloring up tonight is AALL & Create's Squeaky Friends stamp set. I will be sharing how to not only color the images, but how to create atmosphere and grass.

To create this duo of colored cards, I used the Wild Rose Studio Antique Library paper pack and sentiments from the Squeaky Friends stamp set.

Nuvo Markers are on the Left, Copic on the Right

Again, let me know which of the two is your favorite in the comments below.

Make sure you tune in tonight to the LIVE, because these are only a sample of the images I have pulled to color. Looking forward to seeing and interacting you you tonight. Until then, happy crafting.

Victoriana

Hey Friends! Trying something a little different today, using great paper to do all the work in a couple of cards! I pulled out the 13@rts Victoriana paper pack from White Rose Crafts.

CARD ONE

For my first card, I pulled out a piece of ASPIRE Petallics Autumn Hay cardstock. I trimmed it up to 4.25x5.5 inches. Then using some dies from my stash, I created a smaller square and an oval, from the inside of the trimmed cardstock, mainly because I didn't want to 'waste' paper. I also trimmed a strip of another piece.

I trimmed up two pieces of the Victoriana paper pack to fit just inside the petallics cardstock.

Using double sided adhesive, I layered the cardstock and the printed paper. I had to trim the cardstock oval down by hand to fit the paper the way I wanted, but loved how the haystack looked under the printed paper.

Using the Technique Tuesday You Did It stamp set to add a sentiment to the hand trimmed banner.

I finished the card with a few drops of Nuvo Crystal drops in Dark Walnut.

I love how this one came out, and how the Autumn Hay cardstock brings out the warm tones in both of the Victoriana papers.

CARD TWO

For card two I repeated similar steps, but used ASPIRE Petallics Wine Cup cardstock.

I pulled out two different papers from the Victoriana paper pack and trimmed three ephemera pieces from the paper pack.

I had planned to simply lay the banner trimmed paper over the dark red paper, but felt it got lost. So I pulled out a piece of Pearl card stock and trimmed it up and placed it under the banner.

I also ended up pulling up a third piece of printed paper from the pack, and laid it on top of the strip of paper.

I added the oval cardstock and the hand trimmed ephemeral to the card. The ephemera was added with three dimensional squares.

I added a sentiment from the Technique Tuesday You Did It stamp set and finished the card with some Nuvo Vintage Drops in Earl Grey.

I love how this one came out too, even though it is much more moody and dark.

Let me know which of the two is your favorite in the comments below. Until then, happy crafting.
