Featured Design Team Series: How To Create Faux Tiles With Embossing Folders & Distress Oxides by Kim Slade-Fuller

Good morning White Rose Crafts fans! Kim here today with my very first Design Team project, and I am so excited to share it.  I have altered a simple wooden frame, and used some fun techniques with lots of WRC goodies!

The first step is to choose your Distress Inks and Oxides which you wish to make your tiles into. You rub your inks directly on the flat side of your embossing folder. I am using an Elizabeth Craft feather embossing folder which you can find in the WRC shop.

Ink up your folder generously, I used Faded Jeans for this, and you may have to re ink it and run it through a second time, but be generous with the ink. I prefer the worn look, but for a more solid look on your paper you can run it through as many times as you wish. I used Cracked Pistachio and Tumbled Glass in the Distress Oxides

The result when it is embossed is that you have the dark space which you inked and when embossed, the white from the card stock will be raised up. Its a really cool effect and has so many applications!

The next step is to prep the frame, which I used some Americana Decor paint, but you can use what ever colour you like.

Once the paint was dry, I took my paper and cut it up into squares and rectangles to make my faux tiles. I laid them out in a pattern I liked and alternated the size and colour of the tiles.

I glued the tiles down with a strong glue and cut off the excess and then sanded the frame to ensure the tiles looked even and smooth around the edges.

I wanted to make some embellishments that matched the feathers from the embossing folders, and decided to make some paper ones rather than use real ones. I did this by adding some thin wire in between two pieces of paper and then cut them into feather shapes, fringing around the edges. I then used my Distress Oxide in Tumbled Glass to give the feathers a bit of colour.

I added some of the Amercian Crafts Ivory Glitter Ribbon to the top of the feathers, and then
I added some glitter from my stash, and a Doodles Paper Playground Sparkle Blend called Vixen, to the feathers for some fun sparkle.

Next I added some pearls from my stash  and the gorgeous Recollections Flowers from WRC in coordinating colours.

I wanted to keep the centre of the frame simple, so I used a piece of paper from the Winter Moments by Craft O'Clock Paper Collection, and also the Breathe Stamp from the Kelly Creates Quotes 1 Stamp Set.

I felt the tiles needed some "grout", so I used some of my texture paste and a small brush and added it around the frame on each of the tiles.

I think the effect is something fun and different, and it gives you a new way to use up those embossing folders and create a fun home decor item.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I really hope you have found some inspiration here!

Fawning over Lawn Fawn

lawn fawn week

Hey Everyone!!!  It is EK here to remind you that it is Saturday, so that means it is time for a new Theme week over at White Rose Crafts.  The Theme this week is Fawning over Lawn Fawn and the design team is playing with all the Lawn Fawn they can get their hands on!

I am wrapping my heart around fall today with my project, and sprinkling in a little pumpkin spice.

EK Gorman, White Rose Crafts a

Today I am playing with the Pumpkin Spice stamp set (because I actually might be obsessed with pumpkin spice coffee) and the Polka in the Meadow paper pack.  I pulled two pieces of the black and white paper from the pack, and a piece of scrap orange paper.

Then using my colored pencils, I gave the stamped image a little bit of color.

To finish off my card, I pulled out the Be-Leaf In Yourself Sparkle Blend sequins and added bling to the project.

You can save 10% all week on Lawn Fawn products over at WRC with Coupon Code: LAWN FAWN

Make sure you share any of your Lawn Fawn projects with the Rosie team over on the Facebook.  We love seeing it!

Featured Design Team Series: Color Sticker Owl by Alison Heikkila

Color in Sticker Owl

Hello! This is Alison and I am so pleased to share my second project as a White Rose Crafts Design Team Member. This week, we are focusing on "Leaves and Harvest of Color," plus the October Add-Ons to the October Kit. October (and Autumn) is my favorite time of year, so this theme made me very happy. Also, White Rose Crafts has a Sketch Challenge going on right now, so I opted to use that for my card layout. You can check out the sketch at the bottom of my post.

For this card, I decided to work with the Papermania Glitter Color in Stickers- Owl. I colored my owl with PITT pencils from Faber Castell. What I really love about these stickers is that they are just that...stickers! No need for adding adhesive, no cutting. They are perfect for coloring on the go, and then you can apply them to your projects easily.

I used some oval dies that I had in my stash as a mat for the owl (and because it goes with the sketch) and then I worked on my background. The focus is definitely the Gold Shimmer Paper from Craft Creations. The iridescence is stunning! You'll be able to see the wide range of colors that is has on each of my pictures. I also added a few sequins from the Love Potion Sparkle Blend.

Look at the colors and shine on that Gold Shimmer Paper! I love it! And it tears really nicely as you can see. Lastly, I added a simple "Thanks" from Lawn Fawn and heat embossed it with white powder. This card would work with many sentiments. Now, let's compare my card to the sketch, shall we?
